A delegation of offcials from a sister institute, the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute  for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) visited UNAFRI on  27th June 2013. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two  institutes. The visit was also aimed at exploring possible joint projects which can be implemented  in areas of training and dissemination of knowledge for capacity building in crime prevention, in  specifed regions of Africa with particular focus on the Sahel region and Francophone countries.

Principally, the visit was an  opportunity for UNAFEI to share  with UNAFRI knowledge and  crime prevention needs, status of  identifed crime situations, crime  statistics and experiences based  on prior contact about specifed  regions in Africa. This was  essential for UNAFEI’s planned  intervention in Africa later this  year, with a training workshop in  Democratic Republic of Congo. UNAFRI’s delegation was led by  Mr John Kisembo, the Acting  Director, and comprised of Mr John  Sembuya Ssali, the Administration  Finance Offcer; Prof. Eric Paul  Kibuuka, founding staff and  former Deputy Director who also  worked as Offcer in Charge of  UNAFRI until 2003; Ms Sarah  Musoke, Finance/Administration  Assistant; and Mr Patrick Mwaita,  Research/Training Assistant.
