A delegation of offcials from a sister institute, the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) visited UNAFRI on 27th June 2013. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two institutes. The visit was also aimed at exploring possible joint projects which can be implemented in areas of training and dissemination of knowledge for capacity building in crime prevention, in specifed regions of Africa with particular focus on the Sahel region and Francophone countries.
Principally, the visit was an opportunity for UNAFEI to share with UNAFRI knowledge and crime prevention needs, status of identifed crime situations, crime statistics and experiences based on prior contact about specifed regions in Africa. This was essential for UNAFEI’s planned intervention in Africa later this year, with a training workshop in Democratic Republic of Congo. UNAFRI’s delegation was led by Mr John Kisembo, the Acting Director, and comprised of Mr John Sembuya Ssali, the Administration Finance Offcer; Prof. Eric Paul Kibuuka, founding staff and former Deputy Director who also worked as Offcer in Charge of UNAFRI until 2003; Ms Sarah Musoke, Finance/Administration Assistant; and Mr Patrick Mwaita, Research/Training Assistant.
